A designated “safe” place is not the one place in the room that you will be able to walk into without being confronted by clutter. This is instead the place in the room where you can dump all of those important items which suddenly come to light during your decluttering efforts, the ones that belong in another room, or which don’t have a place as yet for them to go to.
By doing this you are helping yourself to keep decluttering as otherwise you would probably find yourself walking around the whole house trying to find where these things go, and in the process getting distracted by other little things that need doing.
If you’re decluttering one room, then stick with that one room for your allotted time of a day, or half a day, or even 15 minutes. It will all get decluttered slowly but you do need to make a stand somewhere and deciding to stick with one room is the best way to make that stand. Read the rest of this entry »
